Apple aura app11/21/2023 You may find reading the FAQs from Lancaster University about the reasons for real time alerts here useful. I am sorry that the entire purpose of the app, providing real time alerts, is not for you. Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. I guess this is just an app for someone purely interested in geomagnetic activity. I’ve been attempting to chase the aurora for the last 6-7 years, but this app hasn’t really helped me in that regard. It is never visible all over the U.K.– all one can really say is that it is visible in parts of Scotland & northern England. I’ve seen many red alerts on there, and it notifies you that the red alert means that the aurora is visible everywhere in the U.K., and this simply never true. It’s fun if you wish to see a livecam from the Shetland’s, but that’s it. There’s no forecast at play, which makes it a bit useless. Telling me what is currently occurring isn’t good enough to go to a location to see it because by the time you you get there, the forecast has changed and aurora completed. Whilst this app does have its virtues, it’s biggest problem is that it informs you of aurora activity when it is too late. Not really helpful in getting you to see the aurora * Use Siri shortcuts to get latest status (including HomePod). * Watch app allows quick access to current activity. * Widget allows quick access to current activity. * View Shetland Cliff Cam to see any aurora. * View map with current aurora & cloud cover. * See how likely it is that you may see the aurora. * Monitor the UK's geomagnetic activity in real-time. * Receive realtime alerts direct to your device when sighting is likely. The AuroraWatch UK app for iOS is written, run and maintained by Neil Morton at Progress Concepts Limited, in association with AuroraWatch UK, giving you the data at your fingertips on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, and delivering free real-time alerts whenever aurora is likely to be visible from the UK.Īlerts are configurable within the app to different levels, so you will know when to look out for aurora wherever you are. It is run by scientists in the Space and Planetary Physics group at Lancaster University’s Department of Physics. Once seen, it is never forgotten.ĪuroraWatch UK is a free service offering alerts when the aurora might be visible from the UK. The aurora borealis (or northern lights) is a spectacular natural phenomenon which can occasionally be seen in the night sky over Britain.
